HORSE RACING: The Wheatland Hunt has attracted a record entry of 276 for its point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday.

The feature race, the mens' open, has attracted a quality entry which is sure to bring the crowds to the village's roadside course.

Richard Burton, who is making a strong challenge for the men's riders' title, has a fascinating choice of mounts in the race.

Burton has ridden Coole Venture, Fane Counsel, Minella Silver and Paddy for Paddy to victory in the past.

The last three have always shown their best form on soft ground so the recent heavy rain may tip the odds in their favour.

Lady Dudley Cup winner Caught at Dawn has won five consecutive races between the flags and the 10-year-old went to Cheltenham last week to add a hunter chase to his tally.

It is rumoured he will next appear in Stratford-upon-Avon at the end of May but if he meets his engagement at Chaddesley he cannot be opposed.

Officials are delighted at the huge entry which is 76 per cent up on the corresponding fixture last year when it was transferred to the area.

The first race gets underway from 2pm at the course which is adjacent to the A448 running between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster.
