BROMSGROVE RFC U16s have added to the club's already successful season by winning the North Midlands Cup.

The Finstall Park side beat Old Silhillians 23-11 to lift the trophy at Ledbury on Sunday, April 25, just a week after the First XV won the Midlands Two (West) title.

Old Sils gained the early advantage in a tense first half with a well-taken try but Bromsgrove battled back and were rewarded with a penalty, kicked by fly half Gareth Thomas.

Both sides were evenly matched after the break with Old Sils extending their lead to 8-3 with a penalty.

Bromsgrove, coached by Phil Ingram, Geoff Strong and Simon Carter, were rewarded with their first try after sustained pressure allowed captain David Hughes to run in from 22 metres. Thomas converted to put Bromsgrove 10-8 ahead.

Old Sils re-took the lead with another penalty before Bromsgrove turned on the style.

Thomas claimed another penalty for a 13-11 lead and Thomas Winterbottom later pounced on a loose ball for a try.

Winterbottom added a second try late on.
