TWO hours of heavy rain brought an end to Bromsgrove CC's promising start in their opening Birmingham and District Division One fixture of the season at Kenilworth Wardens.

Captain Nick Davies was forced to sit out his first game in the role with a hamstring injury, handing the reigns to Nick Husbands, the man Davies replaced as skipper.

But he saw the game and said: "We were in control when the rain came."

The Boars were boosted by the inclusion of Worcestershire's Kadeer Ali, returning from injury.

Husbands lost the toss and was asked to bat on a damp wicket.

Paul Duffy (12) and Julian Court batted steadily before Duffy was given out LBW not playing a shot.

Ali joined Court and the pair progressed nicely to 64 before Ali fell to Jordan. His innings including two fine sixes and some intelligent running with Court.

New Zealander Nick Edwards joined Court for his league debut and the pair looked in little trouble before the heavens opened.

Court (28 not out) batted with great patience in difficult conditions and Edwards looked at ease in his first season abroad.

Skipper Davies is hopeful of playing in this Saturday's home league match against Stratford-Upon-Avon and the National Knockout second round match with West Country side Hatherley and Reddings at St Godwald's 24 hours later.

He said: "It is important we win that game (National Knockout) and I think we can go far this year."

All games for Barnt Green CC, including their First XI trip to last season's Birmingham and District Premier Legaue champions Wellington, were washed out.

Himbleton CC and Cutnall Green CC also fell foul of the weather.
