THERE was plenty for the locals to cheer at Ludding-ton Road on Sunday despite the poor spring weather.

Alcester trainer John Allen shone strongly in the opening two races at Stratford, taking the opener with 14/1 chance Society Buck and then boasting the third and fourth horses - Isotop and Jazz Du Forez - in the afternoon's second race.

Jonjo O'Neill, who notched up his 100th winner of the season at Ayr last Friday, and Jackdaws Castle stable jockey Liam Cooper prevailed to win the Roddy Baker Gold Cup as 4/1 favourite Day Du Roy claimed the Handicap Chase honours.

Adlestrop handler Richard Phillips had Bourton-on-the-Water rider Warren Marston to thank for success aboard Greenfield in the day's fourth race - a handicap hurdle. Twelve lengths adrift of the 9/1 winner was Pardini, trained by Paxford's Milton Harris with Allen's Knightsbridge King a distant fourth.

Robin Dickin had a barren afternoon but Alscot Park stable jockey Ben Hitchcott was back in the winners' enclosure after Power Unit, trained in Wales and sent off at 25/1, won the afternoon's final race after a thrilling finish.

The next meeting at Strat-ford is on the evening of Friday, May 21.
