MALVERN Rugby Club and Aston OEs will contest next month's North Midlands Cup final.

The pair were due to meet in a semi-final on the weekend of April 24/25 but have now progrssed to the final, at a venue to be decided, on May 9.

Malvern and Aston OEs have progressed following the withdrawal of the other two semi-finalists, Bromsgrove and Luctonians, from the competition.

The decision means that Malvern and Aston, the defending champions, will go forward to represent North Midlands in next season's Powergen Cup.

The county's third place in the Powergen Cup has yet to be decided but will probably based on the highest-placed North Midlands club outside the National Leagues, who has not withdrawn from the county cup.

Following the withdrawal of Bromsgrove and Luctonians, North Midlands are likely to review the way next season's county cup is run.

The flexible system of allowing clubs to arrange to play county cup games on mutually convenient dates has not been successful.
