A DOUBLE dose of music and song is in store for theatregoers when the English Touring Opera visits Malvern.

The company, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, will bring Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream to Malvern Theatres, accompanied by a 26-piece orchestra.

Said to be the most popular opera ever written, The Marriage of Figaro tells the story of the obstacles faced by Figaro and fiance Susanna as they prepare for their wedding.

From philandering employer Count Almaviva's attempts to seduce the bride-to-be, to the tangled love-lives of the couple's colleagues, the opera promises a poignant study of romance and fidelity, full of famous tunes and hilarious set pieces.

Britten's interpretation of A Midsummer Night's Dream features music depicting the events in Shakespeare's well-known play.

The action centres on a passionate quarrel between fairy king Oberon and his wife Titania, resulting in Oberon making Titania fall in love with a human, Bottom, who is later given an ass's head by prankster Puck.

The seductive music of the fairies is balanced by the activities of Bottom and his group, with dramatic and imaginative results.

The Marriage of Figaro can be seen at 7.30pm on April 20, 22 and 23, while A Midsummer Night's Dream can be seen on April 21 and 24.

Tickets cost from £18 to £22 with tickets for A Midsummer Night's Dream costing £10 if booked alongside The Marriage of Figaro).
