Garden event

STUDENTS from Pershore College have taken part in the national Landscape Skills 2006 contest.

Four four-person teams competed in the second of five regional events hosted by Warwickshire College.

During a demanding six-and-a-half hour contest, in which NVQ horticulture students are tasked to build a seven-by-seven metre landscaped area from ground level to finished garden, Pershore joined teams from Warwickshire Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire.

The prestigious competition was won by the team from Warwick, with Pershore College taking fourth place.

Park winners

TWO Year 8 students from the Chase High School in Malvern have won the prestigious Hereford and Worcester county orienteering trophy.

Rosey Hartman and Jon Howie were awarded medals and the cup.

Carol Farrington was praised by Gwyn Thomas, head of physical education at The Chase, for organising the event at Eastnor Deer Park.

Library art

PUPILS have been busy creating artwork that will grace Malvern's refurbished library.

Teams of eight from The Chase High School and 13 primary schools have been working under the guidance of visiting artist Peter Owen from Lancashire. The aim was to create a series of murals inspired by illustrations in favourite books, both fiction and non-fiction.

£20m plans

MALVERN College has taken the first step in a £20m improvement plan.

The school has applied for planning permission for two new houses for day pupils off College Road.

It wants to build the houses in response to a 25 per cent increase in pupil numbers since 2000.

Their views

YOUNGSTERS from a Droitwich school have contributed directly to proposals for the future delivery of services that affect them.

Children from Westlands First School were asked their views on the Worcestershire County Council draft children and young people plan.

Green pupils

A RECYCLING scheme for schools has been launched by Malvern Hills District Council. This involves the collection of paper, textiles, plastics and cans. The timing of some rubbish and recycling rounds has been changed as a result.
