WORCESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club have been shortlisted for the prestigious Sport Industry Awards.

The County are one of six entries whittled down from an original list of 80 for the 'Best Use of PR in a Sport Campaign' prize alongside some massive global organisations thanks to the successful Twenty20 Cup campaign last summer.

The judging panel chose the County because of their innovative use of public relations, the huge coverage it earned and the results it achieved.

Features such as the pitchside hot tub, motorised duck and the 'Grab a Grand' competition provided the New Road club with huge media coverage before, during and after the event.

The County will be up against adidas, Pepsi, 02, Ladbrokes and the Lawn Tennis Association for the award.

Whereas adidas and Pepsi spent hundreds of thousands of pounds hiring the likes of Jonny Wilkinson, David Beckham and Roberto Carlos for their campaigns, Worcestershire's efforts were achieved on a budget of less than £300.

New Road commercial director Tom Sears said: "We are delighted to have received this recognition of our efforts with the Twenty20 Cup last summer.

"The Sport Industry Awards is a huge profile event and a look at the other organisations on the shortlist is a great indication of our achievement."

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 4.
