WORCECESTER Rugby Club ladies under 16s were triumphant at the National 7s tournament.

They found the defence of the trophy harder this year than last, losing one of the pool games to Fullerians 5-19 after beating all the others in the pool without conceding a point while scoring 99.

Somehow the Worcester girls did not start in their usual fashion, let in an early try to a very speedy opposition and never managed to cat-ch up.

Coming into the next round as runners-up meant we faced our semi-final opposition from the National Youth Cup, Camberley, who had improved their game since then and only went down 17-0.

The semi-finals had Worcester facing their finalist opposition from the same cup, this time we beat them 19-0.

This win brought them to face Fullerians again in the final, a side obviously full of confidence after winning against Worcester earlier.

This confidence was soon shaken by a quick try run in by Worcester captain Helen Clewer.

Unfortunately neither this try or the next by Jackie Home were converted.

Just before half time Fullerians pulled one back to reduce the lead at the break to 10-5.

Just to add to the tension Fullerians scored again soon after the restart and the score was still a nail biting 10 all two minutes from the end when Helen completed a real captain's performance by barging through the Fullerians' line and running 30 metres to score under the posts, the try being converted by Jess Morgan.

Fullerians couldn't make an answer to this and the final score remained at 17-10.Scorers over the tournament were;

Tries by Alice Richardson (8), Helen Clewer (5), KT Singleton (5), Guestie (3), Jackie Home (3), Jess Morgan (1), Becky Blakeway (1), Nat Clifford (1).

Conversions were from Alice (7), Jess (3) and Nat (1).
