BEN Hinshelwood could yet play a big part in Worcester Rugby Club's Sixways showdown with Orrell.

The centre is expected to be included in Scotland's World Cup squad which travels to Australia in September.

However, a two-week window in the national team's preparations could allow Worcester's star player to take his place in the September 13 encounter with the Warriors' main National One title rivals.

Indeed, if Worcester can get permission from Scotland, they are hoping to also get the green light for Hinshelwood to play in the league clash at Goldington Road with Bedford seven days later.

"There is no question of us not releasing him if he has commitments," said Worcester's director of rugby John Brain.

"However, if it is a gap in the itinerary then we cannot see a reason why he couldn't play. Ben is obviously keen to play after coming back from a long-term injury."

Hinshelwood broke his leg back in January and has not played competitively since. But after being added to Scotland's squad for a training session in Poland next month, he looks likely to be named in the final World Cup 30.

"It would be a big boost to have somebody like Ben available for the Orrell game," added Brain. "We have got to speak to Scotland about it but we don't envisage a problem if he has no commitments."

Meanwhile, Brain has confirmed that scrum half Matt Powell is now a Worcester player.

A delay in the signed contract being sent to Sixways had caused some confusion about the former Harlequins man's intentions but the 25-year-old has now committed to Worcester.

"Many people were surprised that Harlequins let him go," said Brain. "He's still a young player and comes to Worcester with the clear intention to get back into the Premiership.

"He certainly won't be happy playing understudy to Werner Swanepoel and that's the sort of attitude we want here."
