JOHN Brain slammed Worcester Rugbu Club's 'unacceptable' display in the victory over Exeter Chiefs.

The Sixways director of rugby was furious with the level of performance in the Powergen Cup match and ordered his troops in for Sunday morning training.

"A lot of good things have gone on at Sixways this season," he said.

"However, if it's bad you have to hold your hands up. The players have to accept that the performance was unacceptable for a Worcester team. We can talk about it only being a cup game but that doesn't matter. It's an irrelevant excuse.

"We got to 33-15 and we couldn't wait to get off the pitch. The opposition can sense that and they know they've got a new chance.

"We set ourselves quite high levels of performance and that fell way below the accepted levels.

"It wasn't a lack of focus on the players part. They just didn't perform and for too long in the game, they let Exeter dictate. Letting sides come to our home and dictate is not something that we want to perpetuate."

Despite winning the match, however, Brain was hardly looking forward to a next round clash at Wakefield.

"I'm not looking forward to it," he said. "That game will be a distraction for us. We wanted to win the fourth round game against Exeter because it was a home tie and it fitted into our plans.

"But Exeter have got more out of the game than we have. They will be happier than us and the game hasn't sent out the right kind of signal. And when Exeter come to Sixways in the league soon, the players will have to put that right.

"We've got a lot of hard work to do now because we were in danger of throwing all of our good work away in one match.

"It just wasn't good enough and the players are well aware of that."
