Clevedon Tn 2, Evesham Utd 4

AN IRONIC twist of fate saw a sending off rebound in the faces of Saturday's hosts and United record a first win under Dave Busst's stewardship.

Seasiders' central defender Shane Andrews saw red for kicking out at Andy Hammett two minutes before the break and Evesham hit back in superb style as four second half goals overturned a 2-0 interval deficit.

The Robins have seen Wesley Joyce, Andy Smith and Steve Taylor all dismissed against Clevedon in the past couple of years and how they made the hosts pay when the boot was on the other foot.

Substitutes Craig Pountney and Craig Ball combined to give the visitors an early tonic after the restart with the latter sidefooting home after Ball's shot had been pushed out by the Clevedon keeper.

Grant Pinkney made up the trio of half-time changes that proved inspirational and United could have run out even easier winners.

"We could have scored six or seven, "said a delighted Busst. "Sometimes it's harder to play against ten men but we got an early goal and never looked back.

"The chances were coming anyway but their handicap obviously helped us. It's hard to say what would have happened if their guy hadn't had been sent off."

The Robins manager saw his side twice caught on the break as Phil Walsh's searing drive and a bundled effort from Ryan Weisberg had seemed set to sentence the visitors to a third league defeat in seven days.

However, once Pountney had levelled and then given his side a 58th minute lead, there was only going to be one winner.

Simon Marsh made it 3-2 seven minutes later after Sean Flynn had nodded a free-kick from Nathan Jukes against a post. The woodwork denied Marsh a second before Jukes sealed a fabulous fightback six minutes from time when his shot was deflected past a helpless Danny Greaves.
