EVESHAM United Ladies fielded a team in the third WFA Women's Festival which at Pershore High School last Sunday.

Competing in the Open Age section in a group including teams from Redditch, Worcester and Headless Cross, the Common Road side enjoyed mixed fortunes as they were eliminated at the group stage of this six-a-side tournament.

It all started well with a win against Redditch when the only goal of the game came after a typical run by Nicky Bond had set the ball up for Charlotte Benson-Wilson to tap home.

A single goal defeat by Worcester meant that a win against undefeated Headless Cross was essential to have any chance of progressing.

However, with both sides finding it difficult to hit the target, the game ended goalless and Evesham were eliminated.

The squad comprised Benson-Wilson, Bond, Mandy Upton, Lorraine Jones, Samantha Jones and Natasha Kuipers.

The new Kidderminster Women's County League season starts on September 7 and any girls aged 14 and over who are interested in taking up the game are invited to training sessions at Common Road from 7.30pm on Wednesdays.
