Evesham Utd Ladies 1,

Burlish 3

UNITED staged a brave performance against the league leaders in Sunday's Kidder-minster Women's County League fixture.

Evesham settled quickly and were the brighter team with the pace of frontrunners Nicky Bond and Tori Southern causing problems for the Burlish defence.

This worked to their advantage after ten minutes when full-back Laura Westwood won a tackle in midfield and the ball broke to Bond who set up Southern to slot home from the corner of the penalty box.

Southern was denied a second by a fine block and Bond ran from halfway before getting in a shot that the Burlish keeper needed two attempts to gather.

Bond fired narrowly over , while Charlotte Benson-Wilson tried her luck from distance as Evesham continued to push forward.

Burlish's first real opportunity came ten minutes into the second half but Sam Jones saved with her feet at the expense of a corner.

Two minutes later the United goalkeeper pushed another effort on to a post and recovered to hack the loose ball to safety. Westwood cleared a shot of the Evesham line before Burlish levelled after 67 minutes.

Burlish wrapped up the game with two fortunate goals in the final ten minutes during which time Bond fired just wide from 20 yards.

After holding the lead for more than an hour, the Common Road side can feel aggrieved at the result as they certainly deserved something out of the game after an impressive display.
