SUCCESSIVE matches against fellow Western Division strugglers Yate Town could hold the key to Evesham's short and long-term future.

Nothing fewer than six points will be demanded by the temporary management team of Micky Brennan and Paul West ahead of Saturday's home match and the return in Gloucestershire on November 15.

The Robins have slumped to next to bottom of the division but three home games in four next month could change that perilous position and hand the new manager a safer platform for re-building.

"We will be training on Thursday, try to put a smile back on their faces and win on Saturday," acting manager Brennan said after Tuesday's defeat at Sutton.

Paul West added cautiously: "There are no easy games in this league but we've found a few things out tonight and we will take those plusses into training and the next game. Fitness levels are not what they should be and that is something that needs to be sorted soon."

Brennan pointed the finger at defensive inefficiency on Tuesday when adding: "It looked good at 2-0. There was more penetration and the work rate was good but since they got one goal back there was little response and I feel terribly disappointed."

Brennan is likely to be active in the market for players this week with Paul Danks and Lee Knight from Willenhall and former Common Roader Steve Shaw, now at Redditch, another on the wanted list.

On the debit side, Nathan Jukes and Mark Shepherd are the subject of seven-day notices from Stourport and Redditch respectively, while Simon Marsh and Inderpaul Khela are unlikely to be fit for Saturday's "must win" clash.

Club chairman Jim Cockerton revealed that several people had put their names into the hat to take over from Phil Mullen but the response so far had been "disappointing".

United's home game with Team Bath scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 has been put back seven days.

Saturday's match is being sponsored by Reeves Supplies of Arthur Street, Redditch. The ball is being sponsored by Derek Monaghan of Alcester.

Next Wednesday, United's Youth team travel to play Cinderford Town in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Southern Division, kick-off 7.30pm.
