AFTER losing Lee Knight for four matches and then losing three successive matches, Evesham United face the prospect of losing Sean Flynn, writes Mervyn Collins.

The influential midfielder is the subject of a seven-day approach by the Western Division leaders but, according to sources at the Valley Stadium, the Reds have Flynn pencilled in for a debut on Saturday.

"They can't speak to him until Friday," said Common Road chief Dave Busst earlier this week. "Sean is one of my best mates and he won't make a decision without speaking to me first.

"If Redditch offer him silly money then he may well leave. The club can't go any more. We did our utmost to keep him here when Moor Green and Hinckley came in for him earlier in the season but, the money that's flying about the moment, means it's going to be out of our hands."

It's doubtful whether Flynn will be fit to kick a ball on Saturday after limping out of last Saturday's defeat with a recurrence of a hamstring problem he suffered in training last Thursday.

Busst, who signed a two-year contract this week, is hoping to have one or two new faces on show for a home double-header against Bedworth and Bromsgrove on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.

Seven-day approaches have been made to Studley for midfielder Steve Duncan and the same offer has been made to Nuneaton teenager Danny Williams.

Skipper Knight should be back to take his place in central defence for the midweek Worcestershire derby, while Marc Burrow is available again for the Bedworth clash.

Inderpaul Khela dislocated his shoulder for a third time this season last weekend but Busst is hoping the ex-Kidderminster man will be fit for this weekend.

"Injuries are the least of my worries," Busst declared. "We've lost our energy and enthusiasm at the moment and we've got to get it back quickly.

"We talked about things after the game last weekend and we're going to keep on working at it. Mangotsfield weren't the best of sides and I thought it was going to end goalless. We had a couple of penalty claims rejected but the guys up front have lost their way, we're short in midfield and the players at the back just aren't talking."

The Evesham manager expressed delight at the showing of latest recruit Omar Green.

"He's got blistering pace and he wants to be at this level," Busst revealed. "He's playing four or five levels before this league and he's going to carry on playing there although he will be available for selection when his club are without a game."

Peter Sutton, who played under Busst at Solihull, was another debutant last weekend after Bromsgrove Rovers waived the usual seven-day rule to enable the striker to link up again with his former manager.

Saturday's game is being sponsored by Euro Foods of Selby and the ball by Adrian Danby of the Swan Inn, Evesham. Evesham company Clarke Roxburgh are sponsoring Tuesday's clash when the ball is being sponsored by Steve Lane.
