BROMSGROVE Rovers Supporters Society is keen to heal the rift between themselves and the football club.

Relations between the two groups have broken down in recent months and the society want to put things right.

The society approached the Advertiser/Messenger this week in an attempt to build bridges with the club.

Their concern was highlighted by the programme notes of Rovers chairman Tom Herbert ahead of the Sutton Coldfield Town league match on Saturday, November 29.

In them he said: "The bad news I have to report is the unfortunate breakdown in our relationship with the Supporters Society.

"I think it is only fair that it should be pointed out to all members of the Society and fans in general that since the beginning of the 2002/2003 season the Society have failed to supply any financial support to the club."

Yet the society claim they have made three offers of financial support to the club - £300 to repair the grass cutting equipment for the Victoria Ground's pitch, £250 to sponsor a match and £100 to fund medical equipment.

The society was asked to find £1,500 to buy a new television set for the Victoria Club but they refused.

Society press officer Pete O'Connell said: "We class the football club as the playing area but we don't consider the social club as part of the football club that we should fund. We only want to upgrade the stands and the toilets and dressing rooms, we are quite happy to fund that.

"We have absolutely nothing against the club or Tom Herbert and have told him he has done a really good job."
