MUCH-TRAVELLED forward John Williams was among the new faces at Kidderminster Harriers' first pre-season training session yesterday.

The Midlands-based 35-year-old, released by Swansea, is bidding to extend his professional career by earning a deal at Aggborough.

Williams left Cradley Town for Swansea in 1991 and returned to the Vetch Field a decade later after playing for 10 other clubs.

He has scored 66 goals in just over 400 matches, including netting 11 in the Premier League for Coventry during the early 1990s.

Boss Ian Britton wants a strong, speedy striker and trialist Williams could fit the bill, along with Leon Kelly who is also believed to be joining training at some point.

Kelly, 25, wants a second chance in the Football League after just two games for Cambridge United in season 2001/02.

He was player of the season at Ilkeston with 21 goals, despite their relegation from the Dr Martens Premier Division.

Britton, down to 14 contracted players, said: "My mobile phone has been ringing constantly with agents trying to offer me their players.

"A few have interested me but I won't commit to anything unless the deal is right for us.

"I expect a few more trialists to come and go over the next few weeks. I am also in negotiation with a few other players which may take a while to sort out."

Harriers, who have so far signed ex-Walsall and Mansfield defender Matt Gadsby, are giving past loan signing Kenny Coleman a golden opportunity.

Coleman, released by Wolves, stands a good chance of being offered a one-year deal if he has shaken off the stomach strain that dogged him last season.

He has been joined at training by fellow 20-year-old and Wolves old boy Graham Ward, a midfielder who has captained Ireland U-20s, along with Mark Danks.

Forward Danks scored for Bradford in the FA Cup against West Brom last season but ended up being farmed out on loan to Halesowen Town before being released.

Midfielder Eliot Paschalis, who has been at Walsall and Nuneaton, is also on trial.

But Harriers seem set to miss out on experienced centre-half Tony Barras who is wanted by Division Two club Notts County when they come out of administration.
