THE release of Tony Barras has improved Ian Britton's chances of bringing the experienced centre-half to Kidderminster Harriers.

Britton has reportedly already made an offer to Barras whose contract with Division One side Walsall will not be renewed.

Walsall manager Colin Lee had been keen to retain the no-nonsense former Hartlepool, Stockport, York and Reading player as part of his squad.

But the 32-year-old's priority is believed to be securing regular first-team football and he is sure to have to drop down at least one division to achieve that.

Barras has made more than 400 Football League appearances and would add much-needed experience to a defence that leaked too many goals last season.

Meanwhile, Britton has revealed he is more likely to add youthful enthusiasm to his attack than an old head, with a season-long loan signing a possibility.

He wants two new forwards after allowing Drewe Broughton to join Southend and releasing Ian Foster.

Britton has not ruled out a return to Aggborough for last season's loan signing Andy Bishop who is likely to be available for a temporary move again.

Bishop, 20, scored five goals in a Harriers shirt and showed plenty of promise for the future.

Harriers should have a squad of around 19 players next season.
