TOMMY Hayes has won the race for number 10 at Sixways.

Worcester Rugby Club's new signing has been given the vote by coaches John Brain and Andy Keast ahead of the Warriors' trip to Otley on Saturday (3pm).

Hayes, who signed from Glasgow in the summer, has displaced James Brown at fly-half after an impressive display on Friday night in the 16-13 defeat of Premiership champions Wasps.

"His performances pre-season have earned him the number 10 shirt," said coach Andy Keast.

"He was impressive against Neath-Swansea and then again on Friday night against Wasps. He's fully fit and looks in good form going into the game."

Fellow new signing Daren O'Leary also gets his first National One start for Worcester following his move from Gloucester, but they are the only new faces in a familiar looking Warriors side.

Ben Hinshelwood makes a welcome return to competitive action following his January leg-break. The Scottish international will not be required by Ian McGeechan for Saturday's Murrayfield friendly with Ireland and is therefore given the opportunity to sharpen up his match fitness at Cross Green.

"He will get some game-time," added Keast. "It's nice to have Ben available but he has been away with Scotland all week so he is on the bench to start with."

Skipper Werner Swanepoel has proven his fitness after run-outs in the last two pre-season friendlies, while centre Gary Trueman edges out newcomer Duncan Murray despite some impressive form in the warm-up matches by the former Gloucester youngster.

"Duncan has pushed Gary all the way," added Keast.

The pack has a well-worn look to it with veterans Tony Windo and Neil Lyman in a front row featuring Chris Hall. Brain and Keast have plumped for a second row of Mark Gabey and Dan Zaltzman, while Richard Bates, Gavin Pfister and Christian Evans make up a powerful looking back row unit. Drew Hickey is ruled out with a shoulder problem, while Nnamdi Ezulike continues to recover from knee surgery.
