BROMSGROVE Rovers face two huge matches in as many days this week as they attempt to get 2004 off to a winning start.

Rovers host local rivals Halesowen Town at the Victoria Ground on New Year's Day (3pm) and travel to Solihull Borough this Saturday.

Both sets of opponents are, like Rovers, going well in the Dr Martens Western this season but avoiding defeat in each game will be paramount for George Rooney's side if they are to keep in touch with the leaders.

The boss said: "It's a hectic period but you can only play them one at a time."

Injuries are likely to play a key role with both Kevin Banner and Ryan Mahon still doubtful. Chris Dawson, injured along with Grant Beckett in last week's Dr Martens League Cup loss, is also facing a battle to be fit.

Elsewhere, Ross Collins' suspension continues into the New Year while Ian Stephenson is waiting to get match practise in the reserves.

Rovers are also due to entertain Premiership outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers next Tuesday, January 6, in the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup (7.45pm).
