BEN Hinshelwood has spoken of his delight after being named in Scotland's World Cup squad.

Worcester Rugby Club's centre was this morning named in the squad bound for Australia later this month for the autumn showpiece event.

Hinshelwood has battled his way back to fitness after breaking his leg in January and the 26-year-old admitted that the call up was even sweeter after the injury.

"I was always confident of coming back but it was just a question of time," he said. "I'm very, very happy to be named in the squad because it will be a great experience.

"It is a wonderful tournament and just to be involved is fantastic, especially after the injury. It has been a major goal of mine to make the World Cup and I'm delighted to have achieved it."

Hinshelwood has missed Scotland's last two warm-up defeats to Wales and Ireland but is confident his country can at least make the quarter finals.

"I think that is the very least we should expect," he said. "We have a lot of hard work to do but I'm confident we can improve and we will be ready."

The Scotland squad departs on September 29 which means Hinshelwood could still be available for Worcester's next two league games against Orrell and Bedford. However, after that, he is likely to be unavailable until November 22 when the Warriors face Exeter at Sixways in National One.

Sixways coach Andy Keast, though, was more positive about Hinshelwood's call-up.

"He deserves it because he's had to do it the hard way," he added. "He hasn't been able to prove his worth on the field because of the injury -- he's done it on his own and worked very hard."
