TOMMY Hayes - the hero of Worcester's weekend win over Orrell - will only make the bench on Saturday.

The former Cook Islands international fly half is named as a substitute for the Warriors' National One trip to Bedford (3pm) as James Brown comes into the side.

Coaches John Brain and Andy Keast have surprisingly tinkered with the team that beat Orrell 40-14 last weekend as they go in search of their third league success.

"We've got two good fly halves and it's James Brown's turn to start," said Keast.

"We don't want to make the same mistakes as last season when we played Werner Swanepoel too much.

"It gives us a chance to give Tommy a rest and that will keep him fresh."

"We're not suggesting there's a rotation policy in the squad," added Brain.

"James Brown hasn't played since the pre-season game against Stourbridge. Now that's over a month ago now. He deserves a chance."

Ben Hinshelwood is missing from the line-up after Scotland refused to release him from their training camp.

"We're disappointed," added Keast. "But that's it now. He goes off to the World Cup and Worcester goes on without him. It's something we have accepted and we will get on with it."

Duncan Murray takes Hinshelwood's outside centre role to form a youthful pairing with Gary Trueman. David Officer is still absent because of a hamstring tear.

Flanker Richard Bates is ruled out with a knee ligament strain so Dean Thomas gets the nod at blindside after impressing as a second half replacement against Orrell.

Gavin Pfister continues at openside while number eight Drew Hickey finds himself in the squad for the first time this season after recovering from a shoulder injury. Hickey is on the bench while Ben Daly continues at hooker.

"Bedford always raise their game against Worcester especially at home," said Brain.

"The key thing is not to do what we did at Otley and show teams a lack of respect. It is a difficult away trip but we must overcome that."
