WES Davies believes his move to Sixways can ignite his international career.

The former Wales rugby league star made the switch back to union this week with Worcester and is already setting his sights on the international stage.

The grandson of rugby league legend Billy Boston certainly has something to live up to and the 25-year-old is ready to start making a name for himself for the Warriors.

"My ambition is to play international rugby and coming to a club like Worcester can only set me on the way," he said.

"I had a taste of international rugby union with Wales A and I would love to progress. Worcester have the ambition, the facilities, the coaches and the players to help me along that path.

"My grandad is a rugby league legend so there's plenty to live up to!"

Boston scored 478 tries in 487 games for Wigan in a glittering 16-year career that saw him earn 31 Great Britain caps. And with that heritage, it's unsurprising that Davies comes to Worcester with big ambitions.

"I'm not coming here to make up the numbers," he said. "I'm here to get myself established in the team and help Worcester into the Premiership.

"I will back my ability to do that. This is a fantastic opportunity because everything about Worcester is top class, you just have to look at the coaching set up to see that."

Davies, who began his career with Wigan before moving into union with Orrell last season, admitted he was disappointed to have left the Edge Hall Road club at the end of the campaign. However, he revealed it was not a coaching decision.

"The coach Ross Reynolds wanted to keep me," added Davies. "But the chairman Maurice Lindsay had other ideas. He never gave me a good reason and it left me in the lurch really because most other clubs had recruited players when I was let go."

Davies met up with fellow new signing Jon Hylton yesterday. The former Wasps wing came to Sixways after impressing on a pre-season trial.

"I'm delighted to join," he said. "I'm looking to push the guys at Worcester, give them some competition and make the team stronger."
