THE new recycling system will be slowly phased in across Wyre Forest from July.

Every household will eventually get two recycling boxes for newspapers, plastic, cans, glass and textiles, which will be collected weekly. A wheelie bin for the remaining waste will be collected either fortnightly or weekly, depending on the outcome of an on-going consultation exercise.

By April next year, 84 per cent of the district's homes will be using the system. The rest, in rural areas, flats and hard-to-reach properties, should come on line in the following year. The council also plans to introduce a "green" doorstep collection for garden rubbish and cuttings.

The aim is to dramatically improve the rate of recycling in the district, from the current 5.58 per cent to 10 per cent by next year, increasing to 50 per cent.
