YOUNG gun Martin Freeman looks set to inject raw pace into Worcester Rugby Club's attack on Saturday.

The academy wing is in line for a start in the Powergen Cup fifth round clash at Wakefield (2.30pm).

Freeman has been called up because of injuries to Daren O'Leary and Duncan Roke, while Wes Davies is rested for the trip to College Grove.

Freeman has been identified by academy bosses Nigel Redmond and Graham Smith as a player with 'masses of potential' as he continues to impress at youth level. The 18-year-old was plucked from the English Player Development Group and has already been involved for his country at under-19 level.

"We don't know how quick he is yet," said academy assistant manager Smith. "He's a natural athlete and it is a wonderful sight to see him running. He has also shifted a fair few weights as well this week so we know he has some strength.

"The coaches John Brain and Andy Keast have seen enough of him to call him up into the first team squad and there is certainly more to come."

Freeman may also be joined in the side by fellow starlet Tom Warren if prop Neil Lyman fails a fitness test on his groin injury, while former academy graduate James Percival is pushing for a starting spot at lock.

Worcester will finalise their side tomorrow after assessing their growing injury problems but Jon Hylton, Jon Higgins, Chris Hall, Dan Zaltzman and Matt Evans all look likely to be given the chance to impress.

"It will be a real opportunity for a number of players," said director of rugby John Brain.

"I would expect that the players coming in would see this game as a big opportunity to stake a claim for a place against Henley next weekend."
