1804: In a committee of the House of Commons on Wednesday last, it was ordered that leave be given to bring in a Bill to enable the proprietors of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal Navigation to raise money to complete the said navigation.

1904: George Thompson (44), clerk of no fixed abode, was charged at the Worcester Police Court with stealing a box containing about 50 shillings in coin from the smoke-room of William Thomas, the licensee of the Green Man in The Tything. The magistrates considered the theft "despicable" as the box contained charity offerings for the Worcester Infirmary. Thompson was sentenced to two months' hard labour.

It has been decided that the depots of several regiments, including the Worcestershire, shall carry out the annual course of musketry at Wedgnock Park.

More than 50 Japanese and about 100 Cossacks have been killed in the latest skirmish between Russia and Japan in Korea.

1954: The Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Admiral Sir William Tennant and Lady Tennant have promised to attend a special children's variety show at the Worcester Theatre Royal next month in aid of the King George VI Fund for Sailors. The matinee is being arranged by Miss Betty Vick of the Victoria School of Dancing, Malvern. Local children from three years upwards will take part.

Mr C.W Dyson Perrins of Davenham, Malvern, who played a pivotal role in the survival of Royal Worcester Porcelain and Lea and Perrins' Sauce, has been involved in a car accident at Nice on the French Riviera. Though he escaped injury, Mrs Perrins and her sister, Mrs Milne were seriously injured. Mrs Perrins has several broken ribs while Mrs Milne is being treated for head and facial injuries. We understand that the car, a hired one, was being driven from Mentone where they were staying, and got out of control down a hill, crashing into a wall.
