I WAS delighted to read N Taylor's common sense approach regarding the place of children on our roads and the issue of pedestrian responsibility.

He is quite right to say that "children should not be on the roads in the first place", and I feel strongly that the council should appoint enforcement officers to implement this policy with immediate effect.

I would like to see the creation of a Juvenile Internment Centre, ideally situated on the site of the now discredited Perdiswell park-and-ride, where all city children would be incarcerated and educated until their 18th birthday.

This would result in a massive reduction in under-foot chewing gum, foul language, fast food litter and unsightly acne.

It would also completely eliminate the school run which would have a significant impact on the 330,000 daily traffic movements within the city boundaries.

This Juvenile Cleansing Programme would also free up an immense amount of congested pavement space, allowing the known 70 per cent of pedestrians who are drunk to keel over without obstructing the carriageway

I also have a plan to combat speed cameras. If we, the motoring people, unflinchingly maintain vehicle velocity below the legal limit, then the ability of Authority to exact financial retribution and disfigure our licences will become impotent.

This will eliminate the source of revenue for planned camera proliferation and render existing cameras obsolete.

Simple, or did I miss something?
