WELL done, David Palmer What an absolutely wonderful idea to replace the Cornmarket car park, the site of the former Public Hall, with a boulevard or grand city square.

Although regarded as a cash till for council coffers, the present scar of the Cornmarket car park could easily have been accommodated in the proposed Lowesmoor development by extending the former Silver Street free car park, and encouraging further use of the St Martin's gate car park, which is normally not fully occupied.

Our senior planners have previously commented on the need to rebalance development of the city centre by including Lowesmoor into future plans. What a golden opportunity.

But that would require planning, vision, or inspiration - something we sadly lack in this city.
