BOOKWORMS at Hanley Castle High School have been getting stuck into their favourite read as part of World Book Day.

To celebrate the event, at the beginning of March, pupils from years seven, eight and nine were asked to vote on their favourite books and the results were announced this week.

The overall winner was Holes by Louis Sachar, a story of injustice and mystery in a junior prison camp in the southern states of America.

Suzie Kibblewhite, from year eight, said: "It's a good story which keeps you hooked, so you want to know what is going to happen to Stanley in the end."

Author Jacqueline Wilson was also a favourite, with three books in the pupils' top ten, alongside classics such as Lord of the Rings and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
