A KARATE "expert" kicked his ex-girlfriend in the chin and sent her flying across the floor into a washing basket, Worcester Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

William Thould, aged 42, had split up with Sarah Tomkotowicz after a two-year relationship, but they bumped into each other at the beginning of March, said Peter Parson, prosecuting.

The prosecutor said on Saturday, March 6, the couple and some friends went back to the victim's house for a drink.

"Thould had about six cans of larger and a bottle of wine," said Mr Parson.

"Unfortunately, the time came when the drink made Mr Thould aggressive.

"She then perhaps, unwisely said 'What's your problem?' and he began swearing at her.

"He then gave her a karate kick which struck her in the chin. She flew across the floor about 3ft, landing in a washing basket in a utility area.

Mr Parson said the victim's brother then arrived, and she let Thould stay at her house as she felt safe because there were other people there, before ringing the police the next day.

"He doesn't have any previous convictions for assault," said Mr Parson.

David Taylor, defending, said his client did not recollect what happened, and asked for a pre-sentence report.

"He pleads guilty today at the first opportunity," he said.

Thould, of Bredon Crescent, Evesham admitted common assault.

He was granted conditional bail and his case was adjourned until Friday, April 30.
