A PRESTIGIOUS sporting prize awarded to the best district in the county is looking for a new home.
The Wilkinson Sword was traditionally awarded to the finest sporting district in Worcestershire. The six districts battled it out in squash, rowing and badminton, among other disciplines.
Worcestershire County Council spokesman Lee Shrimpton, said the authority was pleased to welcome the sword back from Wychavon, which won the last competition.
"But we now have a prize and no one to award it to." The Games are unlikely to return, but councillors are planning a new scheme in order for the sword to be re-awarded, he added.
Called the Newtown Games, and started for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, it was renamed the Worcestershire Games in 1994, before becoming defunct in 1998.
