ROAD improvements at an accident blackspot will be made any day now thanks to the campaign of a leading county councillor.

The M5 Junction 6 roundabout, at the entrance to Warndon Villages, has been blamed for causing confusion.

Spiral road markings have been cited as causing people to dart in and out of lanes.

The issue was debated at the Warndon Parish Council meeting on Monday, March 1, after it was announced that the number of calls to police as a result of crashes had trebled in one month.

Beat manager PC John McManus presented the figures to councillors, saying that out of 22 calls in February, nine were to incidents at this roundabout.

County councillor John Buckley , who represents the area, warned: "It is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs."

Coun John Buckley has campaigned for improvements for two years.

"It's been a concern for some time that the spiral road markings seem to speed up the traffic," he said.

"The reports by local beat manager John McManus seem to substantiate this, with an increase in the number of collisions in that area.

"I hope these changes will play a part in resolving the problem."

Plans to make improvements have been in the pipeline for more than a year.

There is now funding in the county council's budget to kick-start improvements immediately.

Traffic lights and signs will be installed, as well as modifications to the existing road markings.

The traffic lights will be installed at the junction for people using the slip road from the south.

This will enable vehicles on the roundabout to stop and traffic from the junctions to enter more safely.
