FAILED traffic lights in Worcester City Centre left commuters facing massive tailbacks.
Police officers were first drafted in to control the flow of vehicles on the busy City Walls Road and Sidbury junction yesterday.
Temporary lights were eventually brought in, but the road chaos continued into this morning.
Traffic was left stacking up along City Walls Road southbound due to the temporary signals and one lane being coned off for road works.
Rush-hour commuters heading from the south of the city towards Sidbury found themselves in near stationary queues, with traffic stretching back from the failed lights along Deansway and on to Dolday.
Vehicles travelling into the city along London Road also found it slow going, but engineers had solved the problem by about 9am this morning.
A county council spokesman thanked commuters for their patience and said a burned-out controller light had caused the problem.
