I WOULD like to thank those pensioners who turned out to protest at the council meeting.

As one of the Rent-a-Mob pensioners (hey! Mrs Rowley, I haven't been paid yet - sorry, Mr Luff, for this wicked shameful protest) I was disgusted at the abysmal debate contribution by three-quarters of the Conservative councillors.

During a lengthy debate, on the issue of tokens and car vouchers for pensioners, these councillors sat as silent as constipated sheep and said exactly one word ("disagree") on the Liberal amendment. Pity that they could not learn to disturb their innards and say "Baa" to their leaders but they hadn't the guts.

The rest of the Conservative councillors could only speak platitudes, quote statistics, and how other councils had followed the same lines, all of which were selective quotes that could be easily challenged.

Where are those who will challenge by sitting in the next election? Come on, you can get paid a generous allowance plus expenses for just two words "agree/disagree" as required. You do not even have to learn words like "Baa" and "Humbug".
