TURNTABLERS who launched a new experience in Wyre Forest clubbing when they began Battle of the DJs nights in Bewdley are returning home to Kidderminster to perform monthly sets at Elements nightclub.Deuce disc jockeys Adam Robins, Claire Massey, Natasha Roberts (Miss Bas), Paul 'Basher' Bailey, Nathan Freke, Chad Parker and Marc Potter (Funknuckle).

Organiser of Stourport-based Deuce Soundsystems, Adam Robins, said the eight-strong DJ crew, who moved from Penny Blacks in The Ramada Hotel, Bewdley, to a bigger venue in Birmingham in November, wanted to return to the territory where their fan base is.

He said financial pressures had forced them to quit their monthly spot at the Lakeside Country Club in Kings Norton.

He added that he and co-founder, Simon Jevons, were thrilled with the new venture hosting the late room at Elements' weekly house night "Frisky as Funk" on the first Saturday of every month.

He added Deuce disc jockeys, Joe Hughes, Chad Parker, Paul "Basher" Bailey and Lisa, aka "Electric Beat Consignment", would start the ball rolling at 10pm on Saturday. Other Wyre Forest DJs lined up for the future included Melo DJ, Miss Bass, Nathan Freke, Lou Natique and Paul Bailey, he added.

"We did a couple of gigs in Birmingham but it was a very big venue so we had to get quite a lot of people in plus our main fan base is in Wyre Forest and, although the core following came with us, it wasn't enough to fill the venue," he said.

"So we were losing money on it and there were a number of reasons which caused us to stop in December.

"But luckily, pretty much as soon as we decided not to bother with Birmingham, we had an e-mail from the promoters of Frisky at Elements asking if we wanted to play in their back room.

"We did a little trial run about two weeks ago where Joe Hughes played and everyone really enjoyed it so they asked us back to do whole nights."

The 28-year-old, who lives on a boat on the River Severn in Stourport, added he was confident their new venture would be a success.

"We'll see how it goes but I'm confident it will go well because we've got a lot of support in Wyre Forest and I know there are a lot of people who wanted to come to Birmingham but struggled to get transport," he said.

"We used to get about 200 people when we were at The Ramada and I'm confident we'll get these kind of numbers again, if not more - we'll be taking our own dcor, lighting and DJs and giving it the whole Deuce treatment.

"We will play mainly funky house music but with a twist. There will be a bit of techno as well because quite a lot of our crowd are into that."

He added many of the Deuce DJs had been discovered through the Battle of the DJs evenings and, although this event had been "shelved" for the time being, he was always keen to hear from other talented young hopefuls.

He added they were particularly looking for people who played funky house, techno, electro, breaks or "anything a bit different" and urged anyone interested to send demo tapes to Deuce Soundsystem, PO Box 3515, Stourport, DY13 8YG.
