Tenbury United 5 Wyre Forest Brintons 1

TENBURY remain unbeaten in the league in 2004 and extended their winning run to six matches with a convincing win over Wyre Forest Brintons, leapfrogging their visitors to move up to a mid-table position in the West Midlands League Division 1 South.

They took an early lead when the visitors failed to clear their box, the ball falling kindly to Karl Pearson who side-footed home from close range.

Pearson collected a second goal and extended the home lead when Ricky Hammond collected a long clearance to run at the visiting defence. He drove into the box and cleverly held the ball before threading a neat pass to Pearson, who slipped the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Wyre Forest pulled a goal back when Tenbury conceded a penalty on the half-hour, and minutes later should have levelled when Tenbury's back line failed to clear. Fortunately for Tenbury the final shot rebounded off an upright with Byron Davies struggling to get across to cover.

That was as close as the visitors got as Tenbury recovered to regained a two-goal lead when John Welsh met a Michael Foster free kick with a first-time half-volley into the top corner.

After the break Tenbury continued to control the mid-field and after sustained pressure bagged a fourth goal when Welsh headed home a deep free kick from Ashley Botwood.

Such was their dominance that Tenbury could well have added several more goals, but they had to be content with a late goal from Foster who collected a cross from Botwood to drill home in the closing minutes.
