I AM 64 years old and have paid 49 years of NI contributions. I have been off work because of illness for 28 weeks receiving £54 a week.
I've just received a letter saying that now I've been off work for 28 weeks, I will now be given £64, and in April, when the annual rises come into force I'll receive another £1.80p.
As I am unlikely to work again and cannot draw my old age pension for another year, I would like to thank my wife for all her love and support, and of course the DSS. They should be given the five per cent rise they are hoping for - on top of their £12,5000 starting salary.
