Lloyd Pitt was elected chairman at the 30th annual meeting, with George Mattocks as vice-chairman and Peter Piper secretary. Frank Tschak will continue to arrange speakers.
John Mason was the March speaker, talking about "The History of Jet Flight", starting with Frank Whittle's development of the jet engines and their use in the later stages of the Second World War.
Mr Mason continued with supersonic flight, the ill-fated Comet, the Harrier and Concorde, concluding with the Jumbo Jet which provided mass passenger transport, the success of Rolls Royce engines and the development of the Stealth bomber.
In January Goff Jones talked about the transfer of his publican connections, from the Chester Road Tavern to Wood Street, showing street scenes on Station Hill, Coronation parties, and town centre changes, wending his way past Caldwall Hall Tower and Castle Road baths.
