STOURPORT Swifts won through to the semi-finals of the Staffordshire Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Stoke City last night.

Missing nine regular players from their squad, Swifts eventually overpowered a young but very competitive and skilful Stoke side in this quarter-final replay.

Stoke started positively and forced two excellent saves from Ryan Price in the Swifts goal within the first 10 minutes.

Kerry Giddings, returning to his striking position after his spell in goal on Saturday hit back, shaving the post on 25 minutes. Minutes later a good save from Stoke 'keeper Ben Foster denied Robbie Taylor.

Both sides played good football in the first 45 minutes, but the second half saw Stourport come on strong and in the 53rd minute, incessant pressure produced a mistake by Foster and left a tap-in for Giddings.

Stoke pushed on with good efforts from Fisher and Baptiste but Swifts should have wrapped the fixture up but instead wasted several good opportunities on goal.

Swifts will be at home to Kidsgrove Athletic in the semi-finals.
