HEREFORD United manager Graham Turner has bolstered his defensive options with the capture of Tom Smith from Northampton Town.
The 20-year-old central defender joined the Cobblers from Rotherham United last year but has recently been on loan at Gainsborough.
Turner will be hoping he has unearthed another of his trademark bargain deals and will give Smith until the end of the season to prove his worth.
"He's only a young boy and we have a chance to take him until the end of the season to see if we want to offer him a more permanent deal," said Turner.
"He's a left-sided defender, who can play either centre-back or left-back, and I think he is a decent player and maybe he will have a future with us."
