TWO excellent but varied tries from Richard Billings were among the highlights as Chaddesley Corbett defeated Birmingham Wyvern 29-0 in a friendly.
Billings grabbed a brilliant team try and an excellent solo effort in a dominant performance from Chaddesley who did not look like conceding a point.
Their forwards were stronger throughout, particularly in the set scrum, and set up plenty of possession for the backs who ran at their opposite numbers at every opportunity.
But Wyvern's constant infringements in the rucks and mauls prevented Chaddesley from stringing phases of play together in a disjointed game.
The villagers deservedly took the lead on 15 minutes when Andy Colette barged his way over following a series of scrums and a quick tap penalty.
Nick White converted and then added a penalty five minutes later, awarded for handling in a ruck.
Chaddesley played their best rugby in the final 10 minutes of the half and a well-worked backs move saw Ben Towe free to draw the last defender.
Towe sent Billings clear for a try which oozed teamwork and White again added the conversion.
Billings then added his second, turning defenders inside out before racing clear to score in the corner and put Chaddesley 22-0 ahead at the interval.
They increased their lead straight from kick-off when Stu Postins harried the defence into a mistake and grabbed the loose ball to score a converted try.
With the game secure, Chaddesley gave their replacements a run-out but tempers flared in a scrappy game and Anthony Doidge and a Wyvern player were both sin binned.
Fixture, Saturday: Cleobury Mortimer 2nds v Chaddesley Corbett 1sts, 2nds v Kings Norton 3rds (2.30pm).
