A JAMES Whitehouse try and Andy Stooksbury's kicking guided Kidderminster Carolians to a sweet slice of revenge at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

On-song KCs, defeated 30-13 by their Shropshire rivals in late November, triumphed 13-5 in Midlands Three West (North) and moved up two places in the table to sixth.

They deserved to win a hard uncompromising battle but Shrewsbury will be disappointed with their display.

The home side spent the first 15 minutes in the KCs half but could not get on the scoresheet as a combination of wasted ball and determined defensive play kept them out.

Director of rugby Phil Knowles said: "It was a good result against what I think is the most improved side in the league.

"Shrewsbury will be disappointed with the way their forwards performed at times. But I was impressed with the way their three-quarters ran and passed but we do defend well.

"Mark James has played little rugby this season but he had a good game at scrum-half. Once again Giovanni Iacono got through a lot of work.

"Our line-outs were a little off-colour at times. But it was a pleasing reversal of the result at Kidderminster early in the season."

KCs eventually took control but went behind on 38 minutes when hooker Greg Thomas touched down for Shrewsbury.

With the wind at their backs, the visitors did well in the second half and Stooksbury was in good form with his touch kicking to frustrate Shrewsbury.

He added a conversion to put KCs ahead after a superb try from Whitehouse on 50 minutes with a move that started just inside their own half.

The promising young full-back received a good pass down the right and tore down the touch-line before cutting inside and jinking his way across to score.

Shrewsbury tried hard but two penalties from Stooksbury on 66 and 79 minutes really settled the issue.

KCs take on Droitwich in a President's Day friendly on Saturday before travelling to third-placed Bridgnorth the weekend after.

The president Brian Garrett is inviting everyone to come along, including juniors' parents and sponsors.

Iain Crockett rain in three tries and kicked seven conversions in a whitewash for the seconds.

Man-of-the-match Barry Turner, James Guest, Dave Betson, Matt Greene, Dave Jones and Mick Crocker scored the other tries.

The KCs forwards were dominant in an excellent team display which provided the backs with sufficient ball to run up an incredible score.

The thirds collected another win with two tries by Billy Chiverton and one from Matt Woodward who also kicked a conversion.
