NOSTALGIA will be the order of the day for anyone who wants to share their memories of Stourport Basins this weekend.

Wyre Forest District Council has teamed up with British Waterways to host a Memories Day at the French Place in Stourport High Street on Saturday.

People from the town and further afield are being invited to share their anecdotes, whether old or recent, about the characters, boats and buildings of the basins. The event, which runs from 10am until 4pm, is part of a project to create an interpretive map of the basins and the surrounding area, with illustrations by Bewdley artist, Kate Wrigglesworth.

She has been running workshops with St Michael's First Scout Group and Stourport Youth Centre, collecting stories and sketches depicting memories of the basins.

Stourport Civic Society has been involved in the project. The society's secretary and Wyre Forest district councillor, Jill Fairbrother-Millis, said: "The town is on the brink of great changes to its environment due to the loss of substantial industries that will, hopefully, be replaced by housing and regeneration projects.

"This is a unique opportunity for all generations to get involved and look at the history of the Stourport Basins with fresh eyes.

"We are all looking forward to seeing many of the stories immortalised as part of the series of collectable maps."
