JUDO: Samurai Judo Club took a hat-trick of medals at the Agglorex Trofee in Lommel, Belgium.

More than 1,000 players from nine different countries tackled the two-day event at the massive De Sovereigne sports complex.

The full British girls cadet squad included Samurai teenagers Kelly Edwards and Kerrie Pitcock.

But the younger players were first up and Lottie Millington made an impressive start with a bronze medal.

Nervousness cost Millington her first contest but she got into gear with several maximum-point wins before finally losing to the gold medalist.

David Hadley was the other Samurai youngster and he also picked up a bronze after good work against more experienced players.

On Sunday it was the much bigger event for the older players and Edwards was soon busy clocking up the wins on her way to a bronze medal.

A fine win in the quarter-finals against a German girl put her into the semis against her main British rival.

In an early skirmish, the other girl attacked and Edwards countered but the score went against her and she was unable to find enough points for a comeback.

Ryan Pitcock lost his quarter-finals and there was a brave display by the relatively inexperienced Amy Millington who was fifth.

K Pitcock, who was giving away too much weight and age, also finished fifth.

Karl Gaughan put up perhaps the best Samurai display and was extremely unlucky after good wins to lose the bronze by a narrow extra-time score.

Two other Samurai boys returned with medals from the North-West Junior Open.

Tom Walker and Danny Williams did their chances of selection for the British squad a lot of good with bronzes against the country's best players in front of the national coaches.
