THEFT victims, insurance companies and police across the county will be welcoming the return of a nationwide crime-fighting initiative to Worcester.

The SafeGuard valuation service offers the chance for experts to value and register watches and jewellery which customers bring to Ernest Jones, in High Street, Worcester.

Once registered, a SafeMark carries all the information required to establish proof of ownership in the event of loss or theft.

"All SafeGuard valuations are recorded on our national computer database," said managing director, Richard Taylor.

"This not only enables the owner of a lost item to prove its value to their insurer, but it also prevents a criminal from keeping a treasured item recovered by the police."

The service, which has seen a 50 per cent rise in users each year since it began in 1999, costs £39.95 for the first item and £15 for each additional item.

It will be available from 10am until 4pm on Monday, March 15 and appointments can be booked by calling Ernest Jones on 01905 23054.
