A TEENAGER with a drink problem hurled food around a petrol station before assaulting the cashier in a frenzied night-time attack, magistrates heard.

Nineteen-year-old Matthew Dipple, of St Richard's Road, Wychbold, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, where he admitted criminal damage and assault.

Kiernan Cunningham, prosecuting, said at 10.50pm on Christmas Eve, Shazad Shah was working in the Murco petrol station on Wychbold's Worcester Road when Dipple entered.

"Dipple started to pull pasties and pies out and throw them on to the floor," he said.

When Mr Shah asked him what he was doing, "Dipple grabbed him by the coat lapels and began punching him on the face and head.

Mr Shah fought back and Dipple - identified by CCTV footage - left.

Mr Shah sustained a swollen face and aching neck and shoulders.

Mitigating, Susie Duncan said Dipple had alcohol and anger management problems.

"My client was really drunk and had no recollection of what happened whatsoever," she said.

"Without doubt he needs some support and intervention to stop him from future offending.

"He feels very ashamed of his actions and has shown remorse for what he has done to Mr Shah."

Dipple was given a two-month community rehabilitation order and a six-month curfew barring him from being out between 7pm and 7am.

He was also ordered to pay £150 compensation to Mr Shah, £30 compensation to Murco petrol station and £43 court costs.
