ANOTHER accident on the notorious A38 Droitwich Road has caused a councillor to repeat his warning to Worcestershire County Council - put up new speed signs, or I will do it myself!

The Evening News reported last month how Andrew Christian-Brookes had given the county council until the end of April to put up new 30mph speed restrictions in Fernhill Heath.

The Wychavon district councillor claims he has been inundated with calls from concerned residents in the village who want the speed limit lowered.

These measures have been agreed, but Mr Christian-Brookes feels the authority is too slow putting the new signs up.

His promise to erect them himself was made again after a motorcyclist was taken to hospital on Tuesday after being in collision with a car on the road.

"I was at a meeting of the parish council in Fernhill Heath on Monday and someone asked me why I would want to break the law to put up these signs," he said.

"I answered that I did not want to see another accident. The next morning a man was hurt outside the White Hart pub in the village.

"This has just made me more determined to do something about the problem on the Droitwich Road, even if it means being banned as a councillor."

Worcestershire County Council last month assured the residents of Fernhill Heath the new speed limit would be put in force around April.

"We anticipate the new speed limit will be put in place in the new financial year," said Geoff Cox, highways partnership unit manager for the council.

Mr Cox would not comment on Coun Christian-Brooke's deadline to the council.
