ABBEYDALE and Riverside residents will be able to learn more about exciting plans for a new Sure Start centre.

Sure Start works with parents, carers and local organisations to give children the best start in life and is a government-funded organisation.

People can view the plans for the new £400,000 family centre, which Sure Start Redditch hopes to build at St Stephen's First School in Mabey Avenue, Riverside.

The organisation currently has a planning application for the building lodged with the county council.

Sure Start aims to use the one-storey centre, which is planned as an extension and refurbishment of the former caretaker's bungalow, to deliver a variety of services for families with pre-school children, including a nursery.

The school will use the building for community activity.

Becky Willetts, capital project manager for Sure Start Redditch, said: "Residents will be able to come and look at the plans and talk to people involved in the project.

"We've consulted with residents, families and agencies and are keen to ensure people feel involved and well-informed."

Mums-to-be, families and carers with children under four living in Abbeydale, Riverside, Smallwood, St George's, Lodge Park, Lakeside and Batchley can all access Sure Start services.

The open evening is at the school on Wednesday, March 10, from 6-7.30pm
