INVESTIGATIONS are being carried out into how the ongoing problem with car parking can be addressed across the town.

Calls are being made for part of a £2 million Government windfall, given to Redditch Council to spend on improving its housing stock, to be used to create car parking.

Redditch Council labour group leader David Cartwright said parking was a big issue in many estates across the town and the problem needed to be looked at.

He said: "We'll be asking for part of the money to be spent on putting in extra car parking. It may mean creating more parking bays or maybe utilising space where there were once play areas.

"Car parking is a problem in Redditch and if we can find more space for people to park it will make a big difference to the quality of life for a number of residents."

Redditch Council officers have been instructed to investigate the problem and will come up with a number of options which will be reported at a future council meeting.

The Advertiser announced the council would be given the extra £2 million for its housing stock in January.

The money means a £38 million five-year project to upgrade Redditch Council homes will now be completed within four years.
